The temperate climate is the reason we relocated to Tryon. We can enjoy golf, running, gardening and relaxing outdoors almost every day of the year.  There is always something to do here whether it involves equestrian activities, fine arts, music, sports or site seeing.  Greenville and Spartanburg, SC are 40 to 50 minutes away, Asheville, NC is about 40 and if the big cities interest you, Charlotte, NC is only 1 1/2 hours north and Atlanta, GA is a mere 3 hours to the south.

Tryon, NC is nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains close to the border of SC. Tryon is located in Polk County which was rated one of the 10 Best Places to Live in Rural America by Progressive Farmer Magazine. With a population of approximately 1760 and 985 homes, it’s quaint and charming and affords lots of cultural, artistic and recreational activities found in larger cities. The weather is normally cooler in summer and warmer in winter than surrounding areas thanks to the Thermal Belt phenomenon. So the combination of great weather and lots of activities makes Tryon a haven for active retirees and working families. It’s an easy drive to Greenville/Spartanburg, SC or Hendersonville, NC for work or shopping at chain stores. You don’t have to drive that far though; there are plenty of local businesses to take care of your everyday needs.

Columbus, NC is at the center of Polk County and for that reason it became the seat of county government. The historic court house in Columbus, built in 1859, is one of the oldest in NC that is still in use. Currently Columbus has 442 homes in the area, and a population of 992. The parks surrounding the court house host many of the town’s festivals. In fact the weekly farmers market is held in the parking lot. Every Saturday morning from April to November you can purchase locally grown produce and local crafts. Agriculture is a big part of the history of the area and many of the 970 citizens work to maintain the rural nature of the area. The elevation in Columbus varies from 1100 feet to approximately 2100 feet on White Oak Mountain. The ride up to the peak is a meandering road that passes a beautiful waterfall. The views are incredible at the top and you can see for miles.
